Walkpast Privacy Policy
Effective 9 October 2026
Walkpast is made by Sailfish Machine. This policy describes the current app, which is in development.
Location and nearby stories
With your permission, Walkpast uses your location to show nearby places and detect stories during a walk. Location updates can continue with the screen locked while a walk is active. Ending the walk stops its location updates and region monitoring. Nearby searches send coordinates rounded to approximately 100 metres to our Supabase backend; map browsing sends the visible map bounds. These requests also include the requested content language. Walkpast does not upload a recorded walking trail.
Information on your device
App preferences, hidden places, alert history, place drafts, and pending contribution records are stored on your device. Unsent drafts stay on your device. You can delete drafts and manage hidden places in the app.
Contributions and reports
The first time you contribute, Walkpast creates an anonymous Supabase session without asking for an email address. Submitted place details, coordinates, source links, proposed edits, and reports are sent to our backend with an anonymous user identifier. We use these records to review content and limit abuse. Accepted place information becomes public; do not include private personal information in contributions.
Notifications and purchases
Nearby story alerts are local notifications generated on your device. You can disable them in Walkpast or in iOS Settings. Optional tips use Apple’s in-app purchase system. Walkpast receives transaction information needed to verify a purchase; it does not receive your payment card details.
External services and links
Maps use Apple MapKit. Place data and contributions use Supabase. Opening Wikipedia or another external source involves that service and its own privacy practices. Network services may process technical request information, such as an IP address, to provide and protect their services.
Contact and your choices
You can change location and notification permissions in iOS Settings. If you email us, we receive your email address and the content you send. For privacy questions or requests concerning submitted information, contact walkpast-support@sailfishmachine.com. Removing local app data does not remove contributions already sent to the backend.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page as the app and its data handling change.
